Francesco Luciani, PhD

Hourly rate: €35 / £30

ABOUT ME

I am Francesco Luciani. I am a university researcher in Economics and Statistics. I hold a dual master’s degree from the University of St Andrews and Sapienza University of Rome, and a PhD in Economics from Sapienza.

Beyond my academic career, I have worked as a data scientist for three years, both as an employee and a freelancer, applying statistical methods to real-world problems. At the same time, I have also been helping students master statistics through private tutoring, ensuring they build confidence in their skills.

Who I help and what I teach

Statistics can be challenging, especially for students encountering it for the first time. My experience has shown me that many students struggle not because statistics is inherently difficult, but because it is often taught in an abstract and overly technical way. My goal is to make statistics accessible, practical, and even enjoyable.

I assist students from diverse academic backgrounds—whether you are studying business, economics, psychology, or any other discipline that requires statistical analysis, I can help you gain a solid understanding of key concepts.

I offer both private lessons and project assistance, helping students prepare for exams, complete coursework, and develop research or data-driven projects.

These are my main expertises:

BASIC STATISTICS

Learn how to summarize, visualize, and interpret data using measures like mean, variance, and standard deviation. Understand probability distributions and their applications in real-world scenarios.

PROBABILITY

Master the fundamental principles of probability, including conditional probability, Bayes’ theorem, and random variables. Develop a strong foundation for statistical reasoning and decision-making.

STATISTICAL INFERENCE

Gain confidence in hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and regression analysis. Learn how to draw meaningful conclusions from data and apply statistical tests to real-world problems.

PYTHON

Develop programming skills for data analysis and statistical modeling. Learn to write efficient code, manipulate datasets, and construct machine learning models for predictive analytics.

My teaching approach: learn in a way that works for you

Every student learns differently, and my approach is designed to adapt to your individual needs. Here’s how I structure my lessons:

1️⃣ Assessment & Understanding Your Needs
We begin with a conversation to evaluate your current knowledge, identify the areas you find most challenging, and discuss your academic or professional goals.

2️⃣ Simplified Explanations & Step-by-Step Learning
I strive to break down complex statistical concepts into clear, easy-to-understand explanations, avoiding unnecessary jargon. My goal is to help you see the logic behind statistics rather than just memorizing formulas.

3️⃣ Practical Application & Hands-On Exercises
Theory is important, but practice is what makes a real difference. I integrate real-world examples, case studies, and interactive exercises to ensure you can apply what you learn. Whether you need to interpret data, run statistical tests, or work on coding assignments in Python, R, or Excel, we will go beyond theory and focus on practical problem-solving.

4️⃣ Progress Tracking & Continuous Improvement
Learning statistics is a process, and I am committed to making sure you feel more confident with each lesson. We will track your progress and adapt the lessons based on your evolving needs.
